TOPIC 2 – Adaptive and Multifunctional Forest Management Systems
We are interested in joining a consortium (preferably under Topic 1 or 2) to support the development of innovative approaches for adapted forest management. In our group “Forest Ecosystems”, we have long-standing experience in remote sensing-based forest monitoring across a wide range of scales. We generate maps and time series on parameters such as forest structure (height, AGB, cover), vitality, tree species, biodiversity, disturbance, and fragmentation.
Our aim is to develop application-oriented, scalable and automatable methods and information products, supported by our technical infrastructure and expertise in Big Data analytics, that can be integrated into existing forest monitoring processes and support decision-makers in implementing sustainable forest development.
In addition, we have long-standing experience in international cooperation and large-scale projects, which has allowed us to establish a broad network of scientific partners and experts from forest administration and practice.
The German Aerospace Center (DLR) is Germany’s national center for aeronautics, space, energy, transport, digitalization, and security research. The Forest Ecosystems team of the department “Land Surface Dynamics” uses modern remote sensing methods to analyze the condition, structure, diversity, and changes in forests, with the aim of providing information products that support sustainable forest development in the context of global change.
