TOPIC 3 – Timber and Innovative Wood-Based Products
I am a mathematician at the Technical University of Civil Engineering Bucharest (TUCEB) and I am interested in joining an international research consortium under Topic 3 – Timber and Innovative Wood-Based Products, particularly where mathematical modelling can complement experimental research on bio-based and sustainable construction materials.
My main contribution would be in mathematical modelling, analysis, simulation and optimisation, with particular interest in models linking material composition and processing parameters with mechanical performance and durability. I am especially interested in projects involving forest-derived lignin and lignin-based cementitious materials, where experimental results can be integrated into predictive mathematical models.
My expertise includes analytical and PDE-based modelling, parameter and sensitivity analysis, robustness and stability analysis, and mathematical methods supporting prediction and optimisation. I am particularly interested in close collaboration with experimental and numerical partners, where mathematical models can be calibrated and validated using experimental data and then used to support interpretation, prediction and material optimisation.
My position at TUCEB provides a particularly relevant interdisciplinary setting, connecting mathematics with civil engineering, construction materials and structural mechanics. This creates opportunities to develop mathematically rigorous models that address concrete engineering questions arising in the development of innovative low-carbon construction materials.
I am particularly interested in joining a consortium combining lignin valorisation, experimental characterisation, durability assessment, mathematical modelling, optimisation and sustainable construction.
The Technical University of Civil Engineering Bucharest (TUCEB) is a specialised Romanian higher-education and research institution dedicated to civil engineering and the built environment. Its academic and research activities cover areas including civil and structural engineering, construction materials, reinforced concrete, transport infrastructure, building services, geotechnics, water engineering, environmental engineering, mechanical engineering, mathematics and computer science.
TUCEB combines fundamental research with application-oriented engineering and provides a multidisciplinary environment in which experimental, analytical and computational approaches can interact. Within the university, expertise in construction materials, reinforced concrete, structural mechanics, mathematics and computational methods creates opportunities for collaboration across disciplinary boundaries.
Research activities at TUCEB include the analysis of construction materials and structural systems, mechanical behaviour, durability, structural response, numerical modelling and computational methods for civil engineering. The university environment is therefore well suited to research addressing the performance and engineering implementation of innovative and sustainable construction materials.
