TOPIC 1 – Climate-Resilient Forest Systems
We are seeking a consortium to join as partners, focusing on the topic: Forest ecosystems in urbanized environments—pathways and strategies for adaptation, resilience, and sustainable management under environmental pressures, including climate change.
Through national projects, we have gained experience in the integrative, ecosystem-based assessment of urban green space vulnerability—considering environmental changes and associated risks—to develop solutions and strategies for resilience, adaptation, sustainable management, and public well-being. Our studies focus on a comprehensive approach to environmental assessments, including: determining the impact of abiotic, biotic, and anthropogenic factors on environmental components in urban ecosystem; estimating and mapping spatial and temporal trends and assessment indicators (in line with SDG 11, UN-Habitat III, the World Health Organization, IUCN, etc.); conducting comprehensive/ integrative assessments of how environmental changes (pollution, habitat degradation, climate change and associated risks, invasive species, etc.) affect environmental quality in urban green spaces; conducted ecological surveys on public perception regarding the quality, environmental benefits, and sustainable management of urban green spaces; identifying and promoting solutions and measures to improve urban green space management for ecological sustainability, quality of life, environmental information, raising awareness, and disseminating data on the green spaces values.
We have practical experience in using biomonitoring (lichens, mosses, and certain higher plants) for environmental assessments, utilizing GIS, and conducting studies in accordance with the ICP Forests methodology.
The Institute of Ecology and Geography (under Moldova Stat University) organizes and conducts basic and applied scientific research in the field of ecology and geography, on the evolution, structure, functioning of ecological and geographical systems and their basic components, their modification under the action of biotic, abiotic and anthropogenic factors, in order to protect the environment, the efficient use of natural resources, the estimation of anthropogenic impact, ensuring ecological security and the sustainable development of the country's economy. https://ieg.usm.md/en/research-directions
