We are interested in joining a transnational consortium as a research and technical partner. We aim to contribute expertise in GIS, Earth Observation, spatial modelling and machine learning to projects addressing forest resilience, wildfire risk and the impacts of climate change on forest ecosystems.
Our potential contribution includes the integration and analysis of satellite, meteorological and environmental data; development of spatial and spatio-temporal models; wildfire susceptibility and risk assessment; mapping of burned areas and fire severity; and monitoring of post-fire ecosystem recovery. We are also interested in developing transferable decision-support tools and validating them across contrasting European forest regions.
We seek cooperation with universities, research institutes, forest managers, public authorities, civil protection organisations and technology partners that can provide complementary ecological expertise, field observations, operational requirements and pilot areas.
The University of Bucharest is a major Romanian higher education and research institution. Its Faculty of Geography brings together expertise in geographical research, geospatial analysis and the study of environmental and territorial processes.
The Faculty’s relevant areas of expertise include Geographic Information Systems, Earth Observation and remote sensing, spatial analysis, environmental modelling, machine learning applications and the assessment of forest ecosystems. These capabilities support the integration of multi-source geospatial data and the development of reproducible methods for monitoring environmental change, assessing climate-related risks and supporting evidence-based forest management.
Within a FORESTPathways consortium, the Faculty of Geography could contribute to methodological development, geospatial data processing, EO-based forest monitoring, predictive modelling, validation, scientific dissemination and the transfer of research results into decision-support applications.
