TOPIC 2 – Adaptive and Multifunctional Forest Management Systems
The Directorate of Western Mediterranean Forestry Research Institute is seeking to participate as a research partner in transnational consortia under Topic 2 – Adaptive and Multifunctional Forest Management Systems.
Our institute has research expertise in forest management planning, forest inventory, growth and yield science, forest growth modelling, remote sensing, GIS, digital forestry, artificial intelligence, machine learning and deep learning.
We are interested in developing and validating innovative approaches for adaptive forest management, including remote sensing and LiDAR-based forest inventory, individual-tree and stand-level modelling, predictive growth models, forest resource assessment, digital decision-support systems, precision forestry, and operational tools supporting sustainable and multifunctional forest management. We can contribute field measurements and forest inventory expertise, integration of terrestrial and remotely sensed data, AI/ML-based modelling, validation in Mediterranean forest ecosystems, and assessment of the practical applicability of new methods in operational forestry.
We are particularly interested in consortia combining forest science, remote sensing, modelling and digital technologies with practical forest management, and in testing the transferability of methods across different European forest types and environmental conditions.
The Directorate of Western Mediterranean Forestry Research Institute is a public forestry research institute operating under the General Directorate of Forestry (GDF) of Türkiye. The Institute conducts applied and scientific research to develop science-based solutions to practical forestry challenges, generate new knowledge, methods and technologies, and transfer research outcomes into forestry practice.
The Institute’s main research areas include forest management planning and growth and yield, forest ecology and soil, forest management and economics, forest protection and wildfires, silviculture, forest genetics and afforestation, wood and non-wood forest products, wildlife and protected areas, and social forestry.
Our Institute has a highly qualified and multidisciplinary research staff, extensive research and field experience, and the institutional capacity to participate effectively in comprehensive, large-scale, and high-budget national and international research projects.
Within the scope of this call, we are particularly interested in developing international collaborations on climate-resilient forest systems, adaptive forest management, forest monitoring and inventory, growth and yield modelling, wildfires and the impacts of other biotic and abiotic disturbances on forest ecosystems, as well as digital decision-support systems for sustainable and multifunctional forest management.
