TOPIC 4 – Forest Value Chains, Markets and Governance
We are seeking partners to jointly develop an interdisciplinary proposal under Topic 4 – Forest Value Chains, Markets and Governance.
Our contribution combines architectural technology, process design, timber and offsite construction, and experience in digital modelling of forest-to-construction value chains. We bring knowledge of construction requirements and production processes, supported by research undertaken with Italian national research organisations.
We are looking for complementary expertise to broaden the scientific scope and jointly shape the research, particularly in:
• forestry and wood-processing partners;
• Value chain economics/business and social models;
• LCA/ environmental assessment;
•Governance and policy;
• Companies/forest managers/industry associations;
•Regional living labs.
We are interested in collaboration across these fields, including through co-design and living-lab approaches. We also welcome enterprises, forest managers, industry associations and public organisations able to contribute practical knowledge and connections to regional value chains.
Our aim is to build a consortium in which complementary disciplines and professional perspectives contribute from the outset to defining the research questions and respective roles.
Our research group is based in the Department of Architecture at the University of Naples Federico II, a public university in Italy, and works in the field of architectural technology.
Our research focuses on timber and offsite construction, process design and digital modelling, with particular attention to the relationships between material resources, production capacities and construction applications.
We have investigated forest-to-construction value chains through research with ENEA, the Italian National Agency for New Technologies, Energy and Sustainable Economic Development, with CREA, the Council for Agricultural Research and Economics, contributing forestry expertise.
This experience supports our ability to work across architectural and technological research and to collaborate with specialists in the forest-based sector. We offer a perspective grounded in construction requirements and production processes, with attention to the efficient use of local resources and environmental sustainability.
