TOPIC 2 – Adaptive and Multifunctional Forest Management Systems
FORESNA is interested in joining a FORESTPathways consortium working on adaptive and multifunctional forest management, particularly projects developing, testing and demonstrating innovative management approaches under real forest conditions.
As a forest owners’ association with technical forestry expertise, FORESNA can provide a direct connection between research, innovation and forest management practice. We can facilitate the involvement of private, municipal and community forest owners and access to forest areas suitable for pilot, demonstration and monitoring activities in Navarre, Spain.
FORESNA can contribute to the identification of management needs and barriers, co-design and implementation of field and demonstration actions, stakeholder engagement and participatory processes, monitoring of management interventions, and transfer of project results to forest owners and practitioners.
Our experience working directly with forest owners and managers also enables us to contribute to assessing the practical feasibility, replicability and uptake of innovative management solutions, helping ensure that research outcomes respond to real management challenges.
We are particularly interested in cooperation related to climate-adaptive silviculture, forest resilience, multifunctional forest management, close to nature silviculture, diversification of forest uses, ecosystem services and the practical implementation of innovative management solutions.
FORESNA – Forest Association of Navarre is a non-profit organisation representing and supporting private, municipal and community forest owners in Navarre, northern Spain. Its mission is to promote sustainable, active and multifunctional forest management and to support forest owners in addressing the environmental, economic and social challenges affecting forests and rural areas.
FORESNA combines technical forestry expertise with extensive on-the-ground experience, working directly with forest owners, local authorities, forest professionals and rural communities. This provides the organisation with a strong understanding of the practical needs, opportunities and barriers associated with forest management.
The organisation participates in innovation, demonstration and knowledge-transfer initiatives related to sustainable forest management, climate adaptation, forest bioeconomy, diversification of forest products and services, ecosystem services and rural development. FORESNA also has experience in stakeholder engagement, participatory processes, environmental education and communication and dissemination activities.
A particular strength of FORESNA is its capacity to act as a bridge between research, innovation and forest management practice. The organisation can facilitate access to forest owners and potential pilot and demonstration areas, support the design and implementation of field activities, mobilise relevant territorial stakeholders and contribute to the transfer, demonstration and uptake of project results within the forestry sector.
FORESNA is interested in cooperating with universities, research organisations, forest owners’ organisations, forest managers, public authorities, companies and other forestry-sector stakeholders across Europe.
