Our research focuses on filamentous fungi, utilizing expertise in DNA barcoding-based taxonomy, phylogeny, and biodiversity monitoring. As a group leader, I have coordinated and published projects integrating ecological assessments with the study of microfungi—particularly in soils and heat-stressed habitats—where they play critical roles in maintaining ecosystem processes. Our research group has developed comprehensive and efficient biodiversity monitoring frameworks that utilize DNA barcoding for identification and highlight the ecological significance of fungal communities. Our work spans from monitoring soil biodiversity and resilience under climate stress and disturbance to assessing land-use regimes. Through these efforts, we aim to contribute to European policy frameworks, including the European Green Deal, the EU Forest Strategy for 2030, and the EU Biodiversity Strategy for 2030. We strive to advance inclusive biodiversity monitoring by strengthening fungal representation in biodiversity databases, harmonizing data across Europe, and fostering the development of accessible tools (e.g., GlobalFungi) for predictive ecosystem modelling.

Eskişehir Technical University is an education and research university where various international projects—such as Horizon, Erasmus, and similar initiatives—are implemented.
Leveraging our university's existing infrastructure, we will contribute to the Working Groups with expertise in filamentous fungi and taxonomy, phylogeny, and biodiversity monitoring based on DNA barcoding and eDNA metabarcoding. Our researches have advanced molecular frameworks for identifying fungal diversity in soils, heat-resistant habitats, and forest ecosystems, linking microfungal communities to nutrient cycling, soil structure and properties, mapping of the biotics and abiotics and resilience under climate stress. We have coordinated projects and published studies integrating DNA barcoding enabling rapid and inclusive biodiversity assessments. We are committed to collaborative tasks such as methodological development, surveys, training, and dissemination, while also engaging in organizational and strategic discussions.
