field demonstrations, silvicultural practices, new tree species
TOPIC 2 – Adaptive and Multifunctional Forest Management Systems
FCBA can contribute expertise in:
• Analysis of the evolution of silvicultural practices, including approaches that move beyond traditional boundaries between continuous cover forestry and even-aged monospecific management systems.
• Evaluation of mixed and flexible silvicultural strategies aimed at improving resilience, productivity and biodiversity outcomes.
• Development and assessment of innovative reforestation techniques, including site preparation, planting designs and establishment methods under changing climatic conditions.
• Research on new tree species and forest reproductive material (FRM), including:
o Establishment methods and operational guidelines;
o Matching species and provenances with management objectives;
o Integration of biodiversity-friendly practices;
o Assessment of transferability of existing knowledge on wood and mechanical properties to emerging species and provenances.
• Translation of scientific knowledge into practical recommendations for forest managers.
FCBA particularly welcomes projects linking experimental research, field demonstrations and operational implementation.
FCBA (Institut Technologique Forêt Cellulose Bois-construction Ameublement) is the French technical institute dedicated to the forest-based sector, covering the entire value chain from forest resources and silviculture to wood products, construction and circular bioeconomy. FCBA combines applied research, innovation, modelling, testing, standardisation and technology transfer to support sustainable forest management, climate adaptation, biodiversity conservation and the competitiveness of forest-based industries.
