We are preparing a proposal under Topic 1, with strong links to Topic 2, as coordinator. The project focuses on anticipating how forest composition, structure and carbon storage capacity may change under future climate scenarios, and on translating these projections into practical management strategies for climate-resilient forests. Our study region is the Marmara Region of Türkiye, a transition zone between Mediterranean and Black Sea climates.
We are looking for partners from universities or research organisations working in forest management, forest inventory, forest ecology or ecological modelling. We are particularly interested in partners who:
have access to repeated forest inventory or forest management plan data in their country,
can provide a case study area representing different European climate conditions (e.g. Central, Northern or Southern Europe),
are interested in jointly testing the transferability of modelling approaches and co-developing climate-adaptive management strategies with forest managers.
Partners will contribute to case studies, data harmonisation, comparative analyses and joint publications. Detailed project information will be shared with interested partners at the next stage.
The Faculty of Forestry of Istanbul University-Cerrahpaşa is one of Türkiye’s leading institutions in forestry education and research. Our project team is an interdisciplinary group from three departments of the faculty:
Department of Forest Management: forest inventory and management planning, GIS and spatial modelling, LiDAR-based remote sensing, forest carbon accounting and machine learning applications in forest management.
Department of Forest Yield and Biometry: forest growth and yield modelling, stand dynamics and biometric analyses.
Department of Soil Science and Ecology: forest soils, forest floor and nutrient analyses, and forest ecology.
This combination allows us to cover the full chain from field data collection and laboratory analyses to growth modelling, spatial projections and management planning. We have experience in national research projects and close working relations with the General Directorate of Forestry, providing access to forest management plan data and stakeholder networks in Türkiye.
