TOPIC 1 – Climate-Resilient Forest Systems
We are seeking international research partners for collaborative projects focused on forest resilience, climate adaptation and the physiological and molecular mechanisms of plant stress tolerance and recovery.
Through national research projects, we have gained experience in the comprehensive assessment of plant physiological status, stress tolerance and recovery under adverse environmental conditions. Our published research on oak (Quercus robur), European beech (Fagus sylvatica) and other woody plants has revealed species-specific differences in photosynthetic performance, antioxidant responses and recovery following thermal stress. Our investigations also address forest regeneration and the role of biologically active compounds in regulating plant growth and stress responses.
Our expertise combines advanced photosynthetic diagnostics, CO₂ gas exchange analysis, biochemical and molecular approaches to assess plant responses to drought, heat and other climatic extremes. We investigate photosynthesis as a key indicator of plant health and adaptive capacity, integrating photosystem II functionality, carbon assimilation, water relations, antioxidant defence and stress recovery dynamics.
Our research capabilities support the comprehensive evaluation of forest tree resilience, including early detection of physiological disturbances, identification of stress tolerance indicators and assessment of recovery potential. Molecular investigations may further integrate genetic variability, stress responsive gene expression and DNA methylation associated changes, including potential mechanisms of epigenetic stress memory.
We are particularly interested in developing integrated physiological and molecular indicators of forest resilience, comparing the adaptive potential of tree species and provenances, assessing climate adapted forest reproductive material and improving forest regeneration strategies.
We welcome collaboration with universities, research institutes, forestry organizations and international research consortia, contributing expertise in experimental plant physiology, molecular stress mechanisms and evidence based forest climate adaptation.
The Institute of Genetics, Physiology and Plant Protection, Moldova State University, conducts fundamental and applied research in plant physiology, biochemistry, genetics, molecular biology and environmental stress adaptation.
Our laboratory combines advanced photosynthetic research, molecular biology, biochemical analysis, microscopy and controlled-environment experimentation within an integrated experimental framework. Research capabilities include chlorophyll fluorescence analysis, continuous CO₂ gas exchange and transpiration monitoring, assessment of photosynthetic pigments, oxygen exchange, antioxidant metabolism and enzyme activities. Molecular investigations encompass DNA and RNA analysis, PCR-based genetic markers and approaches for studying genetic and epigenetic variability, including DNA methylation.
The laboratory is equipped for controlled cultivation of plants and experimental investigations under different environmental conditions, enabling coordinated physiological, biochemical and molecular analyses of the same biological material.
This multidisciplinary research capacity provides a strong foundation for comprehensive experimental studies and international scientific collaboration.
