TOPIC 2 – Adaptive and Multifunctional Forest Management Systems
The Faculty of Agricultural, Forest and Environmental Sciences, Technical University of Moldova (UTM) is interested in joining an international research consortium under the topic “Climate-Resilient Forest Systems”. Our main research interests include forest biodiversity, vegetation ecology, conservation of rare and threatened plant species, forest ecosystem resilience, ecological restoration, and sustainable forest management. We are particularly interested in collaborative research addressing the impacts of climate change on forest ecosystems, biodiversity loss, habitat degradation, and nature-based solutions for enhancing forest resilience. Our scientific expertise includes floristic and vegetation surveys, forest biodiversity assessments, habitat evaluation, and in situ and ex situ conservation of rare and threatened plant species. We can contribute field-based ecological research, biodiversity and vegetation monitoring, habitat assessments, and case studies from the Republic of Moldova. We are also interested in developing and applying innovative digital solutions for forest ecosystem monitoring, including GIS, remote sensing, drone-based monitoring, and AI-assisted tools for biodiversity assessment, forest health monitoring, and early detection of ecosystem degradation. We welcome opportunities to join multidisciplinary research consortia and contribute to comparative studies, field investigations, ecological data analysis, knowledge exchange, and the development of effective strategies for forest restoration and climate adaptation.
The Technical University of Moldova (UTM) is a major higher education and research institution in the Republic of Moldova, actively engaged in education, scientific research, innovation, and international cooperation. The Faculty of Agricultural, Forestry and Environmental Sciences provides education and professional training in forestry, environmental sciences, agriculture, and sustainable natural resource management. The Faculty offers Bachelor's programmes in Forestry and Public Parks and Ecology and Environmental Protection, as well as Master's programmes in Agroecology and Forest and Wildlife Resources Management. The Faculty combines academic education with applied research and field-based training, fostering cooperation with public institutions, forestry enterprises, protected area administrations, research organizations, and international partners. Our academic and research staff have experience in conducting scientific investigations, implementing national and international projects, and disseminating research findings through scientific publications and conferences. UTM participates in interdisciplinary initiatives addressing sustainable land use, biodiversity conservation, environmental protection, and climate change adaptation. Through its educational programmes, scientific expertise, institutional partnerships, and access to field research sites, UTM offers opportunities for collaborative research, knowledge transfer, capacity building, and the practical application of research results in the Republic of Moldova and the wider Eastern European region.
