TOPIC 2 – Adaptive and Multifunctional Forest Management Systems
We want to join a Topic 2 consortium focused on digital tools for adaptive management of mixed forests. Our proposed contribution covers: monitoring of post-calamity regeneration and young trees; linking tree-level maps to growth/decision-support models; cross-country transfer of models and species coverage; repeated flights for growth and mortality; and detection of habitat trees, snags and deadwood.
What we offer
We offer AI models and software for individual-tree forest inventory from UAV RGB imagery: crown segmentation, genus classification, height/DBH/volume estimates, GIS outputs and practical digital tools for forest managers. We can contribute model development, processing pipelines, validation metrics and transfer of the tools across partner sites.
What are we looking for
We are looking for research organisations investigating permanent inventory plots, field-measured trees, or post-disturbance regeneration sites in mixed temperate forests. Ideal partners provide ground-truth data, silvicultural expertise and test sites in another participating country. Priority countries: Slovakia, Germany, Poland and Austria. In Austria we seek a research organisation (not a company). We are not looking for another company offering the same drone-based tree inventory service.
FlowerChecker s.r.o. (Kindwise) is a Czech AI company based in Brno. Within the Forestum.ai project we develop drone-based digital forest inventory for mixed and deciduous temperate forests. From standard UAV orthophotos we detect individual tree crowns, identify species, and estimate tree height, diameter and timber volume. We plan to participate in FOREST Pathways as a technology partner (not as an coordinator).
