We are seeking international partners to develop joint research projects under Topic 1 – Climate-Resilient Forest Systems.
Our scientific interests focus on the conservation and sustainable use of forest genetic resources, the reproductive biology and regeneration of native woody species, seed quality, ex situ germplasm conservation, and the introduction and acclimatization of woody species of forestry interest. We are particularly interested in assessing the adaptability of forest species and provenances to climate change, identifying species with the potential to enhance forest resilience, and investigating the effects of climate change on reproduction, natural regeneration, and the viability of forest populations.
We are interested in international collaborations aimed at identifying and conserving climate-resilient genetic resources, assessing the adaptive responses of native and non-native woody species to climate change, and developing strategies for the selection and responsible use of forest species and provenances according to local soil and climatic conditions. Particular attention is given to biodiversity conservation, the prevention of ecological risks associated with the introduction of non-native species, and the development of solutions to support forest regeneration and the long-term resilience of forest ecosystems.
The Technical University of Moldova (TUM), through its Faculty of Agricultural, Forestry and Environmental Sciences, has academic and research expertise in forestry, dendrology, forest biodiversity conservation, forest genetic resources, and the biology and regeneration of woody species. The university's research activities include the study of native and non-native woody species, reproductive biology, seed quality and germination, the introduction and acclimatization of plant species, ex situ conservation of plant genetic resources, in vitro micropropagation, and forest ecosystem restoration. These areas of expertise provide a basis for research on the adaptation of forest species to changing environmental conditions, the conservation of biodiversity, and the sustainable management of forest resources.
