TOPIC 2 – Adaptive and Multifunctional Forest Management Systems
AWSi is interested in joining a consortium under Topic 2 – Adaptive and Multifunctional Forest Management Systems as an AI, data integration, and sustainability assessment partner. We would like to develop digital approaches that connect biodiversity monitoring with practical forest management decisions. Potential contributions include automated analysis of acoustic and image data, integrating monitoring results with forest inventory and management records, and developing predictive models and decision-support tools to compare management options. Together with forestry and ecology partners, we aim to assess how different measures affect biodiversity and other ecosystem services, make trade-offs transparent, and evaluate outcomes over time. We are seeking partners with expertise in forest ecology and management, remote sensing, and access to field sites and management data, as well as forest owners, public authorities, and conservation organizations interested in jointly developing and testing these approaches.
The August-Wilhelm Scheer Institut (AWSi) is an independent, non-profit applied research institute in Germany specializing in digital transformation and artificial intelligence (AI). Our Center for Digital GreenTech combines artificial intelligence, data analytics and sustainability assessment to develop practical solutions for environmental challenges. Our relevant experience for this call includes forest biodiversity analysis in cooperation with NABU and work on BIOMetrix, a project exploring AI-based biodiversity measurement and assessment using acoustic analysis, image recognition and multi-sensor data. Building on this experience, we connect environmental monitoring with data analysis and develop digital tools, such as digital twin, for practitioners. We bring expertise in AI and machine learning, data integration, environmental and economic assessment, and translating research into practical applications through collaboration with scientific, industry and public-sector partners.
