TOPIC 2 – Adaptive and Multifunctional Forest Management Systems
Kolibree-Tech offers XSensee, a satellite Earth Observation platform capable of 10× linear super-resolution of Sentinel-2 multispectral imagery, generating georeferenced products on a nominal 1 m spatial grid from native 10 m observations.
We are interested in supporting research on adaptive forest management, precision forestry, sustainable silviculture and the digital monitoring of multifunctional forest ecosystems.
XSensee can provide high-resolution, multi-temporal EO datasets supporting research activities including:
- Forest stand characterisation and assessment of canopy spatial heterogeneity.
- Mapping of canopy gaps, forest boundaries, regeneration areas and vegetation cover.
- Monitoring of thinning, harvesting disturbances and post-management recovery.
- Development of spatial indicators for forest management planning and ecosystem-service assessment.
- Integration of remotely sensed vegetation indicators into biomass estimation models and GIS-based decision-support systems.
Our interest includes collaborative validation of the additional information provided by super-resolved imagery relative to native 10 m Sentinel-2 products. Research teams can evaluate accuracy and operational utility using forest inventories, field measurements, airborne imagery and LiDAR reference datasets.
XSensee services include project-specific image processing, multi-date datasets, geospatial products and technical integration support.
**Cooperation model:** subcontracting or specialist EO service provision to eligible research institutions and consortia, with discounted pricing for non-commercial R&D applications.
**Scientific attribution:** publications using XSensee-generated datasets are required to cite the XSensee platform and acknowledge Kolibree-Tech s.r.l.s. as the technology and data-processing provider, according to agreed citation terms.
Kolibree-Tech s.r.l.s. is an Italian technology SME specialising in Earth Observation (EO), satellite image processing, geospatial intelligence and advanced software solutions.
The company develops XSensee, a proprietary geospatial intelligence platform integrating satellite data processing, multispectral image super-resolution, geospatial analytics and scalable data-processing workflows.
A core technological capability of XSensee is the application of 10× linear super-resolution to Sentinel-2 multispectral imagery, transforming native 10 m observations into enhanced products with nominal 1 m pixel spacing.
The platform supports the production of georeferenced, analysis-ready datasets for applications requiring finer-scale spatial information than standard satellite products. Its software architecture includes automated processing pipelines, geospatial data management and integration capabilities for scientific and operational workflows.
For the FORESTPathways Joint Call, Kolibree-Tech aims to make this existing capability available to European research institutions investigating forest ecosystems, climate resilience, precision forestry, disturbance monitoring, biomass estimation and forest-resource sustainability.
Our contribution focuses on:
- Multispectral satellite image enhancement and processing.
- Production of project-specific, super-resolved EO datasets.
- Multi-temporal geospatial analysis and data integration.
- Technical support for integrating enhanced imagery into scientific workflows.
- Support for quantitative validation against independent reference datasets.
As a commercial SME, Kolibree-Tech primarily seeks collaboration through specialist service contracts or subcontracting arrangements with eligible research beneficiaries.
To facilitate scientific research, the company offers preferential R&D pricing for non-commercial research activities conducted by universities, research institutes and non-profit research organisations.
Kolibree-Tech retains ownership of its pre-existing XSensee technology and requests appropriate acknowledgment and dataset citation in scientific publications using imagery generated through the platform.
