Romanian Space Initiative (ROSPIN) is seeking to join or co-develop a transnational research and innovation consortium under the FOREST Joint Call 2026, primarily within Topic 1 – Climate-Resilient Forest Systems, with potential applications under Topic 2.
We offer expertise in space systems engineering, satellite Earth Observation, data processing and the development of digital applications for environmental monitoring.
Our ongoing ROSPIN-SAT-1 CubeSat mission is designed to support Earth Observation applications, including forest and vegetation monitoring. Building on this initiative, we are interested in developing and validating satellite-based solutions that help assess forest health, detect vegetation changes and disturbances, and support climate resilience research.
Potential contributions include:
Processing and analysis of Copernicus Sentinel and other satellite datasets.
Development of geospatial analytics and AI-assisted forest monitoring methods.
Time-series analysis of vegetation and land-cover changes.
Integration of Earth Observation products into decision-support platforms and demonstrators.
Technical validation and dissemination of research results.
We are particularly interested in collaborating with universities, forestry research institutes, environmental organisations and forest managers that can provide complementary scientific expertise, field validation and access to demonstration sites.
ROSPIN is open to joining an existing consortium as a technology and research partner or contributing to the development of a new proposal, with responsibility for an Earth Observation and digital monitoring work package.
Romanian Space Initiative (ROSPIN) is a Romanian non-profit organisation established in 2019, dedicated to advancing space research, engineering, education and technology adoption.
ROSPIN brings together a multidisciplinary community of over 200 volunteers, including engineers, researchers, students and professionals from the Romanian space and technology sectors.
One of our main technical initiatives is ROSPIN-SAT-1, an Earth Observation CubeSat currently under development, with objectives including forest and vegetation monitoring. The mission was selected for the European Space Agency's Fly Your Satellite! Design Booster programme, providing experience in satellite mission development and systems engineering.
Our activities combine space technology development, technical capacity building, research collaboration and the exploration of downstream applications of satellite data.
Through collaboration with academic institutions, industry and European partners, ROSPIN aims to translate space engineering capabilities into practical solutions for environmental monitoring and other societal challenges.
