TOPIC 2 – Adaptive and Multifunctional Forest Management Systems
Romanian Space Initiative (ROSPIN) is seeking to join or co-develop a transnational research and innovation consortium under Topic 2 – Adaptive and Multifunctional Forest Management Systems of the FOREST Joint Call 2026.
We offer technical expertise in satellite Earth Observation, space systems engineering, geospatial data processing and the development of digital applications.
Our interest is to contribute to the development and validation of digital decision-support tools that help forest managers assess forest conditions, monitor changes, evaluate management options and adapt their practices to climate-related challenges.
Building on our ongoing ROSPIN-SAT-1 Earth Observation CubeSat mission, which includes forest and vegetation monitoring objectives, we aim to translate satellite data into practical tools supporting sustainable forest management.
Potential contributions include:
- Integration and processing of Copernicus Sentinel and other Earth Observation datasets.
- AI-assisted analysis of forest disturbances, vegetation dynamics and land-cover changes.
- Development of geospatial indicators supporting adaptive forest management.
- Integration of satellite-derived information with available forestry and field data.
- Development of digital dashboards, monitoring tools and decision-support demonstrators.
- Technical validation and dissemination in collaboration with forestry stakeholders.
We are particularly interested in working with forestry research institutes, universities, forest owners, public authorities and technology partners that can contribute management expertise, field data and demonstration sites.
ROSPIN is available to join an existing consortium or contribute to building a new proposal, potentially leading a work package focused on Earth Observation, geospatial analytics and digital decision-support systems.
Romanian Space Initiative (ROSPIN) is a Romanian non-profit organisation founded in 2019, focused on advancing space research, engineering, education and technology adoption.
ROSPIN brings together a multidisciplinary community of over 200 volunteers, including engineers, researchers, students and professionals from the Romanian space and technology sectors.
Our main technical initiative, ROSPIN-SAT-1, is an Earth Observation CubeSat under development, with mission objectives including forest and vegetation monitoring. The mission was selected for the European Space Agency's Fly Your Satellite! Design Booster programme.
Through this project, ROSPIN has developed experience in satellite mission development, systems engineering and the technical foundations required for downstream applications.
We are particularly interested in translating space technologies into practical services addressing environmental monitoring, climate resilience and sustainable resource management.
ROSPIN collaborates with academic, industrial and institutional partners and seeks to contribute its technical capabilities to European research and innovation projects.
