We are looking to join a consortium as a partner (funded by TÜBİTAK, Türkiye) under Topic 1, with possible links to Topic 2. We are particularly interested in projects on wildfire and disturbance resilience, post-fire ecosystem recovery and restoration, and biodiversity responses in Mediterranean or other fire-prone forests. We can contribute an Eastern Mediterranean case-study region (SW Türkiye) with established fire-age study sites, multi-taxon biodiversity field monitoring (vegetation, arthropods, small mammals), and analysis of post-fire regeneration and restoration practices. We would welcome taking responsibility for a work package or task on biodiversity and ecosystem recovery.
Burdur Mehmet Akif Ersoy University is a public university in southwestern Türkiye, located in the Mediterranean region close to extensive Pinus brutia (Turkish red pine) forests that are highly exposed to wildfire. Our research group at the Ecology Laboratory works on post-fire ecology and restoration, with a focus on long-term vegetation and biodiversity dynamics after fire and the effects of post-fire management practices. The group has many years of field experience across fire chronosequences in SW Türkiye, covering vegetation and functional traits, P. brutia regeneration, ground-dwelling arthropods and small mammals. We have collaborated with NGO-led restoration projects, and we involve graduate students in research, building capacity in forest and fire ecology.
