Rafael A. Cañas is Full Professor at the University of Málaga (Spain) and expert in forest molecular biology, functional genomics and tree adaptation to climate change. His research focuses on nitrogen and sulphur nutrition, nitrogen use efficiency (NUE), transcriptomics, metabolomics and physiological responses of conifers to environmental stress. He has extensive experience in maritime pine (Pinus pinaster) and Mediterranean forest species, including participation in EU projects SUSTAINPINE and PROCOGEN.
Posible contribution:
- Identification of molecular markers linked to climate adaptation.
- Transcriptomic and gene expression analyses.
- Forest nutrition and nutrient-use efficiency studies.
- Functional characterization of candidate genes.
- Physiological assessment of forest resilience.
- Multi-omics approaches for forest breeding and adaptation.
- Experimental work under climate change scenarios.
- Integration of molecular and physiological data for forest management.
